The next day, your new house is filled with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/home-hq\/va-loan-center\/2017\/12\/26\/just-closed-your-va-loan-beware-of-refinancing-scams\/\" target=\"_blank\">refinance offers<\/a>, and your voicemail and email inboxes might not be far behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moves to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/home-hq\/2018\/01\/12\/bipartisan-senate-bill-targets-predatory-home-loan-practices-aimed-at-vets\/\" target=\"_blank\">limit rapid refinances<\/a>, especially those where the borrower\u2019s expected savings vanish in the fine print, are underway on multiple fronts. Find a list.<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donotcall.gov\/\" target=_blank>The National Do Not Call Registry<\/a> can remove your number from many telemarketing rolls; any calls you get after registering are more likely to be scams. You can also opt out of direct-mail and email marketing via the <a href=\"https:\/\/dmachoice.thedma.org\/\" target=_blank>Data &amp; Marketing Association<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>2. Credit opt-out. <\/b>Applying for a mortgage may put your contact details into the hands of other credit-related agencies, and you could see an increase in mail and phone offers. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optoutprescreen.com\/\" target=_blank>OptOutPrescreen.com<\/a> allows users to opt out of these offers either for five years or permanently. Need to shop for a new financial product and wish you had more offers? You can go back to the site and opt in again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>3. Complaint department. <\/b>If you\u2019ve received solicitations after requesting them to stop, or you believe the sales pitches are misleading or fraudulent, run up red flags via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov\/#crnt&#038;panel1-1\" target=_blank>Federal Trade Commission<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerfinance.gov\/complaint\/\" target=_blank>Consumer Financial Protection Bureau<\/a>, or both.
